peace and blessings

May the Lord bless you
      and protect you.
May the Lord smile on you
      and be gracious to you.
May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
this blessing makes me feel safe. like i'm tucked in a warm spot on a blustery night. at first, when i read this i couldn't put my finger on it. but then i realized that this is the same blessing that my grandparents have given me since i was a child, but it's in english.

for this friday, i wanted to leave you with a thought about legacy. what do you want your legacy to be? i've been ruminating on this after yesterday's post. i want to leave a legacy of love and grace in my wake, to live out this blessing in my life. to bestow blessings, protection, kindness and peace to those that i come into contact with.

my grandfather left a legacy of passion, one that i am proud to be apart of. and the blessings of his life continue in our family. the lessons he taught us and character that he helped develop are part of the fibre of our family tapestry. he died before my son was born and although these two pivotal men of my life will not meet, his blessing and legacy has been bestowed upon my son. that's the thing about legacy, it lingers after we leave. what will yours say?

    2. You have got me thinking about how important some thing s of life are such as relationships and how one treats others and what a person believes in. I find it fascinating that a persons life can be summed up quite accurately in a few words of legacy like - he/she is a nice person or he/she was an unhappy person etc... and like you said about your grandfather whose legacy you described as passion and integrity and how you took that from him kind of like taking a baton in a relay race.... I want to pass a positive legacy to those who will run the race of life after i have finished..... i want it to be one of peace and blessing.

  3. as always....love it. the message of how you want the world to see you today and after you are gone is a powerful one. the sad part is that everyone will make their own judgements that we may find hurtful. In response to my questions about this sort of thing a friend of mine told me "You only have to be right with your own soul" For me it was an important message..that I need to be right with God.
With respect to your son and grandfather..my dad died when my son was 4..although he was sick pretty much his entire 4 years. I can't explain it...but they spent so much together and there is a great legacy of my dad in my son...

    1. i like what your friend said -- you needing to be right with your own soul -- it's a good reminder not only to get ourselves sorted out, but to leave the judgement of those around us to someone else. we are asked to love others, regardless their choices.
sorry to hear about your dad - it's wonderful that your father and son were able to connect even throughout illness. i would imagine those would be precious memories for you and your son.
